Well, this question is more of an opinion than a debatable question, but I would suggest the Winchester 1200 Winchoke 12 gauge. It's about $200-300. Don't think its not a good gun because of the price though. I have one and it's absolutely great. It's got great quality and everything! Winchester doesn't make shotguns anymore so you'll have to get it second hand. Although I got mine second hand and it had never been shot or used. Mine is the ';Team NWTF'; (National Wildlife Turkey Federation) model. This gun is not ONLY for turkeys, it just happens to be the model I bought. It takes up to 3'; shells. It's flexible in terms of barrels. There are many sizes (mine is a 26'; barrel) but you can get it rifled for slugs (deer hunting and what not) and 28'; barrels and the whole 9 yards. I have shot plenty of 12 gauges all to remind me of how different shotgun recoil is than your average 30-06. This gun however, has very minimal recoil. I'm only 13 and I could take that recoil any day. I usually shoot it at the range without ear protection because it's not THAT loud (although other people have loud guns). It is very accurate (with my 26'; barrel at least) at about 100 yards, facing forward (not up to the sky and not down to the ground). You say, ';I am looking to buy a nice shotgun not a plastic piece of crap.';, well you won't be disappointed at all with this shotgun. It is flexible with stocks as well. I have it with a recoil reducing winchester factory stock on it. But, you can buy it with a hardwood stock (it might be hardwood or it might also be walnut; I'm not sure....), or a recoil reducing stock. You can buy these stocks plus lots of others including Hogue Overmolded fiberglass stocks. Have a good hunt!
Well, pure contrast to the ';plastic crap'; is any russian gun. But since you are from the USA (Im guessing) I dont know how easily can you find one, and you probably want pump action or semi auto.

But if you want the traditional hunting gun, I can recomend you any some like IZH 27 or TOZ 43. They are around 500-600 bucks, the later is even cheaper (equivalent of 300euros), they last for lifetime, and come with changeable chokes, calibers from 12/76 to 28/76, selective triggers or not, whatever you like. They also have semi autos (IZH baikal, forgot the model) that is even cheaper, but proved more than excellent on durability tests.

On the other side, any Winchester or Mossberg is also great, but Im really not familiar with their prices.
My friend, I believe that you should look into an Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight.

Lightweight, Durable, reliable... Far superior in any category to any of the Benelli and Remington guns.

Very well made guns. Very classy too... aesthetically pleasing...
